Milk Teeth by Alba Alonso Palombi moves between English and Spanish to trace what is handed down through women: a grandmother's departure from Granada, a mother rendered as heat and citrus, and the long apprenticeship of girlhood. Alonso Palombi works in repeating forms, sestina and pantoum, alongside unpunctuated prose poetry that gathers without a break, so that obsession and inheritance are enacted rather than merely described. The register is carnal and unsqueamish, drawn to butchery, fallow ground, and the body understood as meat, soil, or property to be trimmed. Milk Teeth is poetry that insists on feeling while refusing any form of consolation.

PRAISE for Milk Teeth:
Alonso’s poems are shocking, joyful and defiant. Milk Teeth is crafted with a hypnotic cadence and a compellingly consistent voice, which is also brilliantly alive and badly behaved in the way the best poetry is. An unmissable debut.

In Milk Teeth, girlhood is hungry, desire has teeth, and love can leave blood on the floor. These are poems of startling beauty and violence, where tenderness and brutality, childhood and adulthood, sex, family, art and loss collide. The language is sensuous, visceral and sharply alive. Here is a fierce and bold collection about what we inherit, what we desire, and what it means to grow into yourself.
